Yorktown Justice Court to get new HVAC system after heat concerns

Posted

After months of high temperatures making conditions inside Yorktown Justice Court uncomfortable for town justices and court staff, relief is finally on the horizon as the Town Board moves forward with plans to replace the building’s HVAC system.

The Town Board approved awarding the Justice Court HVAC Installation project to Mercury Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. for $109,750 on Tuesday.

The new system comes after ongoing heat issues inside the Justice Court building created challenges for justices, court staff and others who use the facility, particularly during warmer weather.

The town received five bids for the work. GH Cooling Corp. submitted the lowest bid at $99,800, but the Brooklyn-based company did not meet the bid requirement that contractors be located within 25 miles of the facility.

Because the lowest bidder did not meet that requirement, the town awarded the project to Mercury Heating & Air Conditioning Inc., a Yorktown Heights company that submitted the next lowest qualified bid of $109,750.

Once installed, the new HVAC system is expected to provide more consistent heating and cooling inside the court building, creating a more comfortable environment for daily operations year-round.
