Yorktown 45, Carmel 0
Tuesday, March 31, Yorktown High School
Yorktown won its fourth straight game with a 45-0 triumph against Carmel.
“It’s honestly just been a really strong team effort,” said Yorktown’s Sophia Marcello of Yorktown’s 4-0 start. “Our receivers are doing a great job getting open and making plays, and our defense has been amazing—getting big stops and forcing turnovers for us.”
Marcello (74 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, 37 rushing yards), Jordan Vaught (97 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns), Maddy Reilly (38 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown), Eva Monaco (20 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 48 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns), Gabby Coppola (1 receiving touchdown), Bridget Sullivan (5-yard touchdown reception) and Kayleigh Hung (12-yard touchdown reception) led the Huskers on offense against the Rams.
The Huskers have been dominant in their perfect start, outscoring the opposition 91-0.
“A major reason why our team hasn't let up a point is due to our strong fits all over the defensive field,” said Yorktown’s Sydney Soliz. “We know exactly when and where to go depending on the offensive lineup and get the job done. We work together to force the offense where we want them and let nothing by. We always back each other up naturally which shows our true connection as friends, teammates on and off the field.”
Soliz (3 sacks), Mia Spiniello (1 sack), Hung (1 sack), Corinne Negrelli (1 interception) and Sofia Gentile (1 interception) highlighted Yorktown’s defensive effort against Carmel.
“Against Carmel our speed from the linebackers up top really helped enable our team to shut it out,” Soliz said.
