Yorktown’s annual Fam Jam was set to return on May 9, bringing a full day of music, food and family-friendly fun back to the community, but the event will now be held June 20 due to a forecast of rain.

Now in its fifth year, the event has quickly grown into a local favorite, with organizers expecting about 3,000 attendees for a day filled with live entertainment, activities and community spirit.

Created by a small group of Yorktown residents, Fam Jam is entirely volunteer-run and focused on giving back. Since its founding in 2022, the event has aimed to raise money for local programs and organizations that support residents in need.

“It is a family-oriented event, which has activities for kids and eight hours of live music for parents,” said organizer Brian Duffy.

This year’s event will benefit the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Mohegan Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps, while continuing support for local scholarships.

Attendees can expect a lively atmosphere at Jack DeVito Veterans Memorial Field and Track, featuring food trucks, local vendors and informational booths from community organizations, along with a full lineup of live music throughout the day.

For Duffy, the heart of Fam Jam is the sense of connection it creates.

“We can have fun with everyone in the community, network, and raise money for organizations that really make a difference,” he said.

While some may assume the town runs the event, organizers emphasize that it is entirely independent.

A small team of local volunteers plans and runs the event each year, donating their time to support community causes.

To date, Fam Jam has raised approximately $60,000, supporting initiatives such as local scholarships, food pantries, the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department, and organizations like United for the Troops.

As the event returns this year from 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 20, organizers are again focused on creating a fun, welcoming space for families while continuing to give back to the community.
