YORKTOWN, N.Y. —Armed with orange bags and latex gloves, about 350 community-minded Yorktowners waged war on trash in the 2025 Battle of Yorktown on April 26. Individual volunteers and 48 organizations—from scouts to members of the Yorktown Garden Club and more—marched into the breach to clean up roadsides and other outdoor spaces throughout the town.
Halston Media photographer Jenna Waldman was on the ground to capture the action.
Kristin Scherrer of Yorktown's Refuse and Recycling department said, “Residents came together and braved the rain to help clean up their community” to mark the 55th Earth Day.
Scherrer added that the department appreciates the community members' efforts to keep Yorktown clean—not just those who help out during the annual event, but also those “who pitch in year-round to help keep Yorktown clean and green.”
