Yorktown officials announced this week the completion of a multi-year initiative that invested $3.4 million into parks across the town.

The improvements, detailed in a Sept. 26 release from the town, were made between 2021 and 2025 and focused on modernizing facilities, enhancing safety and expanding recreational opportunities for residents.

The largest projects included $738,000 for the renovation of the Brian J. Slavin Aquatic Center, $726,000 to replace the turf at Woodlands Legacy Fields, and $463,682 for upgrades to the Granite Knolls Recreation & Sports Complex. The Granite Knolls project added improvements to the playground, lighting, fencing and safety padding.

Granite Knolls also received six refurbished pickleball courts with new surfaces, fencing and overhead lighting. Blackberry Woods added a new children’s playground with a jungle gym, swing set and safety surfacing. Patriot Skate Park saw the repair and refitting of ramps with new composite sheeting and repainted metal parts. Railroad Park’s basketball courts were fully renovated, while Chelsea Park’s girls’ softball field received a new batting cage and refurbished dugouts. At Downing Park, the town installed energy-efficient LED lighting and resurfaced the parking lot.

Parks Superintendent James Martorano said the upgrades reflect the town’s commitment to offering high-quality recreational spaces.

“We believe it is our duty to provide beautiful and functional spaces where our families can come together to play and connect with nature,” he said in the release. “These improvements are a testament to that commitment.”

Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman said the upgrades reflect the work of the Town Board.

“These park improvements are a tangible sign of our dedication to providing top-tier amenities that our community deserves,” he said.
