YORKTOWN, N.Y. —Xclusive Cuts 2, the barbershop owned by Carmel Councilman Mike Lugo, celebrated the grand opening of its new Yorktown Heights location with a ribbon-cutting at 352 Downing Drive on April 12.

The shop, the younger sibling to Mahopac's Xclusive Cuts, has moved from its previous Yorktown location to what its 36-year-old owner called a “bigger, brighter, unique storefront.”

In addition to the two Xclusive Cuts, Lugo, who moved to Putnam County as a teen and graduated from Mahopac High School, also owns Love Your Locks Beauty Suite in Mahopac. He said Xclusive Cuts 2's new location at 352 Downing Drive is more customer-friendly than its predecessor for several reasons.

"The new shop is much larger than the last location, and I feel we can better serve the Yorktown community," Lugo said. "We also gave it a more modern look, and we are now ADA accessible, so someone in a wheelchair can visit our new location. And we have more parking."

Lugo opened his Mahopac store a decade ago and has had a Yorktown location for eight years. He won a special election to Carmel's Town Board in 2024 to complete the term of fellow Republican Steve Baranowski. He said he got into politics because he believes local government benefits from getting the viewpoint of local business owners. He is up for election for a full term this fall.

Meanwhile, he got some support from his counterparts across the town line, as Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman and Councilman Patrick Murphy were at the ribbon-cutting.

"The people of Yorktown have been extremely loyal and supportive of Xclusive Cuts," Lugo said.
