Things to do in Yorktown Aug. 14-20

From an outdoor movie and live music to blood drive and community meetings, Yorktown has several events and activities planned in the coming days.

Outdoor Movie

Yorktown Parks and Recreation will present a screening of “Wicked: For Good” as part of its Screening Under the Stars outdoor movie series. Residents are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for the family-friendly event. Registration is available through CommunityPass.

Revolutionary War Concert

“A Musical Journey Through Yorktown’s Revolutionary Past” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, 2880 Crompond Rd. (Route 202).

The free concert will feature original compositions by musicians Carla Lynne Hall and Jim Keyes, inspired by Yorktown’s Revolutionary War history and the people and events that shaped the community during the nation’s founding era. Read more here.

Yorktown Lions Club Summer Concert Series

The Yorktown Lions Club will host its 31st annual Summer Concert Series at 6 p.m. Sundays at Jack DeVito Field Veterans Plaza. The free, family-friendly series features live music in the park and is held rain or shine. Upcoming performances include Jessica Lynn on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m.

Bulk Trash Collection

Bulk Trash collection is only for bulky household items such as furniture, mattresses, appliances, rugs, lamps, curtains & blinds, bicycles and bags of small items. Section 2 will be picked up on Monday, Aug. 17.

Blood Drives  

The American Red Cross (ARC) and the New York Blood Center (NYBC) report a critical need for blood donations. Here are some opportunities in the area:

Jefferson Valley Mall, 650 Lee Blvd., Yorktown Heights: Monday, Aug. 17, noon to 6 p.m. (NYBC); Wednesday, Sept. 9, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (ARC)

John C. Hart Memorial Library, 1130 E. Main St., Shrub Oak: Tuesday, Aug. 18, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. (ARC)

Veterans Advisory Committee

The meeting is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19 in Room 104 of Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center, 1974 Commerce St.

Hilltop Hanover Farm  & Environmental Center

Farm Stand, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Browse a range of seasonal offerings, including tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, squash and leafy greens. The farm stand operates Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., until Thanksgiving.
