Sheridan Gorman’s light will never fade

Posted

Sheridan Gorman was the very best of Yorktown.

She was the kind of person who made you proud to say where you’re from. She carried our community with her in everything she did, and in return, she gave so much of herself back to all of us. Her light was undeniable. Her kindness, her energy, her spirit, you could feel it the moment you met her.

And now, that light is gone, gone far too soon.

There are no words that can truly make sense of a loss like this. No explanation that can ever justify it. All that remains is heartbreak, for her family, for her friends, and for an entire community that is grieving together.

Sheridan loved Yorktown. She gave her time to younger student-athletes, she led by example, and she showed what it meant to care about something bigger than yourself. She wasn’t just part of this community; she helped define it. She represented the very best of who we are and who we hope our children will grow up to be.

As a father, this hits in a place that words can barely reach.

My heart breaks for the Gorman family. What they are going through is unimaginable. No parent should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child, especially in such a senseless and cruel way. We are supposed to watch our children grow, see them chase their dreams, and gleam as they build their futures. That was taken from them. And it is simply not fair.

I had the privilege of meeting Sheridan. She graduated with my son just last year. I saw the kind of person she was, the love she had for her family, her friends, and this town. She was everything we hope our kids become: strong, compassionate, driven, and proud of where she came from.

Sheridan will always be a light in Yorktown. And it is now on all of us to make sure that light never fades.

We honor her not just in words, but in how we live, in how we treat one another, in how we support each other, and in how we continue to show the world what this community stands for. We owe her that. We owe her more than that.

To the Gorman family, please know this: you are not alone. Your grief is our grief. Your loss is our loss. And this town will stand beside you, today and always.

Sheridan’s light will never go out, never here, never in Yorktown.
