Lakeland/Panas’ senior boys lacrosse attackman CC Savastano, a three-year varsity player, entered this season after earning All-League honors as a sophomore and junior. Based on his performance this spring, he has a strong chance to be named All-League again — and potentially All-Section as well.

Through 12 games this season, Savastano has recorded 31 goals and 13 assists, both leading the team. He has 102 points throughout his Rebel career, as of May 3.

"It’s a great feeling, especially doing it with this group," said Savastano, who recorded his 100th career point in a 12-7 loss to visiting Pearl River on May 2. "Getting to 100 career points is something I’ve been working toward for a while and it means even more because of everything we’ve put in together as a team."

He was named the 914 Sports Hub Class A Player of the Week for Week 2 after tallying four goals and two assists in an 11-3 win over visiting Mahopac, and adding two goals in an 8-7 loss to visiting North Rockland.

Savastano, a Lakeland student, also played two seasons on the Hornets’ varsity boys basketball team as a shooting guard. In addition, he played two seasons of varsity football at Lakeland, lining up at cornerback, wide receiver and quarterback.

How old were you when you started playing lacrosse and what got you started? I started playing lacrosse in kindergarten because it was a part of my family. My dad and uncle coached, and my older brother and cousins played. I grew up around the game and fell in love with it.

What is your favorite part of being on the Lakeland/Panas boys lacrosse team? I love being out there with my boys, competing every single day and getting better.

What is your favorite team activity or pre- or post-game ritual? My favorite pregame ritual is being in the locker room with the team while we blast music. It gets everyone hyped, locked in and ready to go out and compete together.

Who has been your biggest role model? My biggest role model is my dad. He has been a teacher and a coach for 36 years, which shows how dedicated he is to helping others.

He’s impacted so many students, not just in the classroom but also through sports, teaching lessons about hard work and teamwork. Seeing everything he’s done over the years inspires me to work hard and try to make a difference too.

What’s one thing about yourself that most people don’t know? One thing most people don’t know about me is that I cut my own hair. My brother and I taught ourselves how to do it and we’ve been doing it for a few years now.

What do you plan to do after high school? I’m planning to attend SUNY Cortland to major in physical education. I also plan to join the lacrosse team and compete at the next level.

What’s your favorite sports team? The New York Yankees, I have been a diehard fan since I was little.

What’s your go-to warm-up music? My go to warm-up song is “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits.

What’s one place you’ve never been but would love to visit? Italy would be my first choice because of the amazing food and history.

What would you say to a young athlete thinking about trying out for the Lakeland/Panas boys lacrosse team? Keep working hard and great things will happen.
