Yorktown Town Clerk Diana Quast has been named the 2026 New York State Town Clerk of the Year by the New York State Town Clerks Association.
Quast, who has served as Yorktown town clerk for 10 years, was nominated by Deputy Town Clerk Maura Weissleder with support from local town clerks, the Westchester Putnam Town and City Clerks Association, Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, legislators, state senators, judges, attorneys and senior citizen residents.
A release announcing the recognition said Quast “exemplifies the very best of public service, and this recognition is a testament to the positive impact she has made on her community.”
The New York State Town Clerk of the Year Award is presented annually to a clerk who “demonstrates excellence in public service, innovation, and leadership within the profession,” the release said.
She is the sixth town clerk in Westchester County to receive the award since 1984 and the 36th statewide among New York’s 933 towns.
In a thank-you letter to Marie Little, president of the New York State Town Clerks Association, Quast said she is “deeply committed” to her work and that the recognition is “hard to put into words.”
She called serving Yorktown as town clerk “one of the greatest privileges of my professional life,” adding that the work is more than records and procedures and is instead about service, accessibility and building connections to local government.
“This award is not mine alone. It reflects the support of my colleagues, the trust of our residents, and the collaboration of so many dedicated public servants across our state,” she wrote. “I am especially grateful to my team, whose commitment and professionalism inspire me every day.”
During her tenure, Quast has focused on modernizing office operations and improving records management, including preservation of historical documents. She also launched initiatives such as a mobile town clerk’s office, a senior safety identification program and a veterans ID program.
Quast previously served 16 years as deputy town clerk and has been a member of the state association for 26 years. She holds Registered Municipal Clerk certification from the state association, as well as Certified Municipal Clerk and Master Municipal Clerk designations from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
Key accomplishments from Quast’s tenure include establishing a mobile town clerk’s office to serve residents unable to travel, helping create the Inclusive Playground at Tom Diana Park at Granite Knolls, and launching a senior safety identification program and a veterans ID program. She also serves on the Westchester County Citizens Budget Advisory Committee, is a member of the Support Connection Board of Directors, and participates in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company No. 1, among other community organizations.
“Her commitment to public service is a shining example of the role government representatives can play in strengthening their communities,” the release said.
