The John C. Hart Memorial Library will host local author and historian Paul R. Martin III for a book talk and signing on July 14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library’s community room.
Martin will discuss his book “Faces from Mitchel Field,” which explores the 44-year history of Mitchel Field on Long Island and highlights the lives and careers of aviation pioneers and historical figures connected to the airfield. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the signing following the presentation.
The book draws on archival materials, including photographs from the Cradle of Aviation Museum, as well as newspapers, military and government records, letters, diaries and interviews. It also features profiles of 38 individuals tied to the history of the field.
Martin is a retired art teacher and historical artist who lives in Yorktown Heights. He serves as chaplain for Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1009 and chairs the Yorktown Veterans Day Committee. He also sits on several historical and veterans organizations, including the Historic Mitchel Field Foundation and the Army Air Forces Historical Association.
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is preferred.
