YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. — A group of local LEGO enthusiasts showed some bricks of the trade as part of the Yorktown Museum's "Masterpiece" contest, earning prizes and recognition from museum and town officials for their creativity and skill.
The contest, held in July, invited community members of all ages to submit original LEGO builds inspired by the theme “Masterpieces,” encouraging participants to reimagine favorite works of art or everyday objects in a new light.
The contest attracted participants from various age groups in town, who submitted a range of LEGO creations. Museum officials said they enjoyed displaying the entries and believe the participants enjoyed creating them.
In a joint statement, Town Clerk Diana Quast and Assistant Curator Amy Swan told Yorktown News that the positive response could turn the contest into an annual event. LEGO bricks, they said, teach through play.
“It was a good focus for their creative energy and a way to show off their skills,” they said. “The smiling faces of the builders show that they enjoyed the contest, and that is the most important part.”
