YORKTOWN, N.Y.—Michaels is now open at Yorktown Green shopping center.

The craft retailer celebrated its grand opening on Saturday (April 12), taking the place of the long-vacant Kmart at 335 Downing Drive. According to an April 15 press release from the Town of Yorktown's PR firm Thompson & Bender, the location includes a custom framing business, with a balloon bar expected to open in the coming weeks. A fabric department is expected to open later this year.

Michaels is part of Yorktown Green's revitalization. The turnaround began in 2022 when Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace opened in a former Food Emporium location that had sat vacant for a decade.

Michaels is part of that momentum, opening in the same former Kmart building where Five Below launched in February and T.J. Maxx opened in November. A pickleball sports center is expected to open there in late August or early fall.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman said that Yorktown is “getting all our commercial spaces filled.”
