Margaret Hoisik, beloved sister and aunt passed away surrounded by her family on Nov.11, 2025. She was the beloved child of Catherine and Paul Anthony (Anthony) Hoisik; born in New York City in 1936. Maggie, as she was known to all of her family, had a sister, Mary, and a brother, Paul Michael (Mickey), whom she loved dearly.

She spent most of her life living and working in midtown Manhattan. Later in life she moved to City Island with her mother to be closer to her cousins. And in recent years she moved to Yorktown Heights to be closer to her sister, nieces, and nephews.

Maggie started working at 18 years old when she learned to be a pearl stringer. Anyone who knows Maggie knows the story of how she started her career. It all began as a work/study program with Tiffany & Co. while in high school (one week in school and one week at work) and as fate would have it, she landed in the pearl stringing department at Tiffany’s assisting them one day, and she learned the craft and became a natural at it. This began a lifelong career. After 22 years at Tiffany, she moved to Cartier where she spent about a decade after which she started her own business stringing pearls for most of the top tier jewelry stores in NYC. She managed her business until 2016, when she retired at 80 years old. Margaret was so proud of her work and rightfully so. And more importantly, her work friends were like family too.

Those who knew Margaret, knew she was a devout Catholic who lived her life as such. She prayed her rosary daily and prayed to her guardian angel and said many a prayer to St. Anthony to help her find anything and everything lost.

She always looked at the positive side of life and never said a bad word about anyone. She would talk to anyone willing to listen and truly listen to what they had going on in their life. She was a good friend to many and never judged. She called everyone to check in and prayed for all of us time and again. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary. In fact, everyone typically got a card (typically a mass/prayer card) before the special day, plus a personal phone call on the day. She kept the family together.

Maggie also loved to keep friends and neighbors together. She called on everyone frequently to check in. If she heard anyone was having a baby, she got straight to work crocheting a blanket, hat and cardigan. She loved to crochet. She spent a lot of time trying to teach her nieces how to crochet and pearl string. Everyone relished the lessons, although not many mastered the crafts like Maggie did – she was one of a kind.

Maggie never married but treated all her nieces and nephews like her own; she had four nieces, two nephews, seven grandnieces, and seven grandnephews. She helped care for them when they were young and was there for every life event. She checked in on them daily, including facetiming when they were at college to make sure everyone is behaving.

Maggie helped everyone get ready for each holiday making sure to help put batteries into Christmas decorations, prepare Easter baskets and hand out candy at Halloween. She was ready to sew on a button or hem a pair of pants and if something was broken, Maggie had a tool to fix it. She made sure to spend equal time with all her nieces and nephews. She loved family gatherings where she would catch up with the entire family.

Maggie leaves behind her sister, Mary (Kevin), her nieces Kathleen (Jim), Brenda (Ray), Margaret (Tommy), and Mary (Joe), and her nephews Kevin (Jen) and John, her grandnieces and nephews Caitlin, Keira, and Ryan (Kathleen’s children), Jack, Meagan and Catie (Brenda’s children), Kevin, Rachel and Jacob (Kevin’s children), Teagan, Darren, Fiona and Logan (Margaret’s children), Isabella (Mary’s daughter).

We trust in the mercy and love of God that she is reunited with her beloved mother, Catherine Hoisik and father, Anthony Hoisik, and her brother Paul Michael (Mickey) Hoisik.
