YORKTOWN, N.Y. —A Connecticut woman and a New Jersey man were arrested by Yorktown Police in two separate cases on July 28 and 29, each charged with grand larceny in unrelated thefts — one involving stolen credit cards, the other a pricey cellphone.
A 23-year-old woman from West Hartford, Connecticut, was arrested July 28 on multiple charges, including grand larceny, after an investigation into a stolen wallet and unauthorized use of credit cards.
Ruyi Zhong was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony; third-degree identity theft; and petit larceny, both class A misdemeanors. The charges stem from a July 16 incident at Level Fitness, located at 3333 Crompond Rd., where a wallet containing credit cards was reported stolen.
Police said the stolen cards were later used at CVS Pharmacy and Chestnut Mobile, resulting in unauthorized purchases totaling $304.90. Detective James Hannigan, with assistance from the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center and New York State Police, identified a suspect vehicle and linked it to Zhong.
On July 28, New York State Police stopped Zhong’s vehicle on Interstate 684 in Brewster. Hannigan responded to the traffic stop, interviewed Zhong, and placed her under arrest. She was then transported to the Yorktown Police Department for processing.
Zhong was released on her own recognizance with an appearance ticket. She is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court at 6 p.m. on Aug. 12.
A West New York, New Jersey, man was arrested July 29 and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony, after allegedly stealing a cellphone from 7-Eleven on July 29.
Manuel Criollo Tuba, 38, was arrested that afternoon after police responded to a larceny report at the convenience store located at 1949 Commerce St. Officers said Tuba was seen on surveillance footage taking a phone valued at $1,299.99 from the store counter and leaving the scene.
Police later located Tuba's vehicle at 374 Downing Dr., in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot, where he was identified and arrested. He was processed at department headquarters and issued an appearance ticket.
Tuba is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court at 6 p.m. on Aug. 12.
