MAHOPAC, N.Y.—Yorktown’s Donald King, a Korean War veteran active in the community, was among the veterans honored at Assemblyman Matt Slater’s annual 94th Assembly District Veterans Hall of Fame ceremony.
The event, held on Saturday, Nov. 15, recognized the service and contributions of local veterans from across the district, Dennis Fernandez of Carmel, Roland H. Ciofrone of Somers, John Martinez of Putnam Valley, Fred Adams Jr. of Kent, Harry Sherblom of Southeast and James McCarthy of Patterson.
“I’m proud to recognize our veterans who have given so much to this country, more than many will ever fully understand,” Slater said in a Nov. 17 press release. “It’s a privilege to stand with them, listen to their stories and make sure their service is remembered in the communities they helped protect. I know I speak for all of us when I say how grateful we are to have them as part of our community.”
Supervisor Ed Lachterman, who was at Saturday’s ceremony, also recognized King at the Nov. 18 Town Board meeting.
Lachterman’s father was a Korean War veteran and he said King’s work is important to him.
“I appreciate this history and the ongoing legacy of these soldiers being brought to life for us,” Lachterman said.
