As a junior, she was named All-League, All-Section, All-State, and National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region, while in her sophomore season, she earned All-League, All-Section, and All-State honors in addition to garnering the state All-Tournament sportsmanship award.

As a freshman, she was named All-League and All-Section Honorable Mention.

Santini also has been playing varsity softball since eighth grade, with this upcoming spring being her fifth year on the team.

A right fielder, as a junior she received All-League and a spot on the Section 1 All-Sportsmanship team.

How old were you when you started playing field hockey and what got you started? I started playing when I was in third grade. The reason I joined field hockey was because my parents knew that Lakeland and SOAC (Shrub Oak Athletic Club) had a great program for field hockey and they wanted to get me involved.

What is your favorite part of being on the Lakeland field hockey team? Definitely the team. I love the friendships we’ve made, the memories we create, and how we always support each other on and off the field.

I am also really lucky to play with my little sister Nicolette because she pushes me to play my hardest no matter the situation. I also really value the bond I have with coach Sharon Sarsen, and appreciate all the guidance, encouragement, and support she’s given me.

She always pushes me to improve, believes in me when I doubt myself, and helps me become a stronger player and person. Being part of this team has taught me the importance of teamwork, commitment, and perseverance, and I’m grateful for every moment we share together.

What is your favorite team activity or pre- or post-game ritual? My favorite team activity is when we all sing songs in a circle or on the bus ride which gets our energy up for the game.

Who has been your biggest role model? My older sister, Gabby (who is a sophomore playing at the University of Vermont). When I was on the team in eighth grade I was very shy but she always managed to include me, which made me truly look up to her.

She is also an amazing field hockey player, where she has taught me so many skills that I use today and I wouldn’t be the player I am without her.

What’s one thing about yourself that most people don’t know? I have a pet turtle named Nala.

What do you plan to do after high school? I am going to the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where I will be playing Division 1 field hockey and planning on  majoring in elementary education.

Who's your favorite professional athlete and pro sports team? My favorite professional athlete is Jazz Chisholm because he never lets the critics get to him and he always plays his game. My favorite pro sports team is the Rangers.

What’s your go-to warm-up music? “Unstoppable” by Sia.

What is the go-to app on your phone? My go-to app on my phone is Snapchat to keep in touch with my friends.

What’s one place you’ve never been but would love to visit? Aruba because the beaches are beautiful and very relaxing.

Best place to eat in Yorktown and why? In my opinion it is Village Pizza. It’s a great after-game spot and the workers are always super friendly.

What would you say to a young athlete thinking about trying out for the Lakeland field hockey team? To not be afraid to put yourself out there and try. Lakeland field hockey is about working hard, having fun, and making memories with your teammates. Just believe in yourself and give it your all.
