L/P’s Pizzarello to play Division I lacrosse at Albany

Posted

Lakeland/Panas midfielder Brooke Pizzarello is one of the senior captains on the Rebels girls lacrosse team, along with Kelly McAleese, Katelyn Kuney, Mya Wilkowski and Samantha Alleva.

Pizzarello, a fifth-year varsity player, was named All-Section First Team and All-League as a junior and sophomore. During her freshman campaign, she was named All-League.

Through three games, Pizzarello has scored a team-high 12 goals. She scored six goals in a 14-10 loss at John Jay-Cross River in the Rebels’ opener on March 23, five goals in an 11-8 win against Albertus Magnus in Lakeland/Panas’ home opener on March 25 and one goal in a 12-6 loss to visiting Somers on March 30.

When did you start playing lacrosse, and what got you into it? I started playing lacrosse in fourth grade when I was 10 years old. All of my older cousins that I looked up to used to play lacrosse, and a lot of my friends started to play too.

What is your favorite part of being on the Lakeland/Panas girls lacrosse team? The people. All of the girls get along well and we love to spend time with each other. I love to see how far we can grow as a group while the season progresses.

What is your favorite team activity or pre- or post-game ritual? Before the games we love to listen to music. After the games we have started a tradition of bringing snacks to enjoy afterwards.

Who is your role model?  My dad. He always played sports growing up and he was always one of the best ones on any sports field. He has pushed me to be where I am today and taught me that hard work pays off.

What’s one thing about yourself that most people don’t know? How much extra work I put in outside of practice—film, conditioning and just trying to improve small things every day.

What do you plan to do after high school?  I will be attending the University at Albany to further my education as well as playing Division 1 lacrosse. I am currently undecided but plan to either study finance or business.

What’s your favorite sports team? The New York Yankees.

What’s your go-to warm-up music? Anything Drake, 21 Savage, or Metro Boomin. I like to listen to rap songs to get me in the mood to play.

What’s one place you’ve never been but would love to visit? I would love to visit Hawaii one day.

What would you say to a young athlete thinking about trying out for the Lakeland/Panas girls lacrosse team?  They should go out there and just have fun. Lacrosse is a game and it is meant to be fun, don’t stress out about it, just take a step back and remember your love for the game. It’s also important to set goals and never stop pushing towards them.
