Tuesday, Jan. 27, Port Chester High School 

Lakeland/Panas nipped Port Chester 42-41, with Nate Horowitz (118 pounds), Vincenzo Maraglino (126), Dan Horowitz (132), Carlos M. Pagan (138), Matt Clyman (157), Bryce Whippo (175), and Raul Aristy (190) all winning by pin for the Rebels.  

Lakeland/Panas 54, Eastchester 14 

Thursday, Jan. 29, Lakeland High School 

Carlos R. Pagan (132, pin), Mateo Santiago (138, pin), Dan Horowitz (144, forfeit), Michael Santoiemma (150, pin), Clyman (157, pin), Steven Sommovigo (165, pin), Whippo (175, pin), Aristy (190, forfeit), and Joshua Martinez (215, forfeit) each won in the Rebels’ 54-14 victory against Eastchester.  

Mahopac Memorial Tournament 

Saturday, Jan. 31, Mahopac High School  

Lakeland/Panas concluded its regular season by placing fifth as a team at the Caruso/Scazillio Mahopac High School Memorial Wrestling Tournament, with Clyman (157, second place), Aristy (190, fourth), Carlos M. Pagan (138, fourth), Enzo Maragalino (126, fourth), Dan Horowitz (132, fifth), Santoiemma (144, fifth), and Carlos R. Pagan (132, sixth) placing for the Rebels.  

“I felt we did well as a team,” said Lakeland/Panas coach Dave Bergen. “Everyone got some good competition leading up to sectionals next weekend. It was a great tournament overall.” 

The Section 1 Division 1 Tournament that the Rebels and Yorktown, which placed second in it a year ago, will compete in will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, at the Westchester County Center.  

Yorktown Wrestling (19-0) 

Yorktown 38, Fox Lane 30 

Tuesday, Jan. 27, Yorktown High School  

Nick Hobson (103, decision, 7-1), Matt Ofner (132, decision, 4-3), Cooper Constantine (138, technical fall, 17-1), Giancarlo Gentile (144, pin), Rowan Larsen (150, technical fall, 17-2), Pavel Lopez (157, major decision, 16-4), Tyler Caricati (175, pin), and Rocco Lore (215, pin) all recorded victories in Yorktown’s 38-30 win against Fox Lane.  

“It meant a lot to still pick up the win even though we had some missing guys (injury/sickness),” Caricati said. “It was great to see some of our JV and Varsity B guys step up and wrestle well too.” 

Yorktown 48, BBHVW 33 

Thursday, Jan. 29, Byram Hills High School  

Yorktown overcame BBHVW (Briarcliff/Byram Hills/Valhalla/Westlake) 48-33 with Jace McCormack (110, pin), Constantine (138, pin), Gentile (150, pin), Lopez (157, pin), Adam Yakout (165, pin), Caricati (175, forfeit), Nick Duran (190, pin), and Rocco Lore (285, forfeit) winning matches for the Huskers, that finished the regular season 19-0.  

State Dual Meet Championships 

Saturday, Jan. 31, SRC Arena, Syracuse 

Yorktown competed in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Wrestling Dual Meet State Championships, losing to Shenendehowa 53-10 and Middletown 45-24.  

Rocco Lore (215, forfeit) and Gio Tornambe (126, major decision, 11-1) recorded wins against Shenendehowa while Rocco Lore (215, pin), Luca Lore (110, pin), Tornambe (126, major decision, 16-5), Larsen (150, technical fall, 17-2), and Caricati (175, decision, 9-2) earned victories against Middletown.  

Yorktown Boys Basketball (13-0) 

Yorktown 67, Edgemont 55 

Wednesday, Jan. 28, Yorktown High School 

Yorktown, the No. 8 ranked Class AA team in the state, defeated Edgemont 67-55, led by Connor Morhardt (31 points), Franklin Ringel (14 points, 9 rebounds), Lucas Shrade (12 points), and Colin Worden (10 assists, 12 rebounds).  

“I was getting great looks from my teammates and it was just flowing,” Morhardt said. “Plus, tonight was Mohansic (Elementary School) night and all the kids and families brought amazing energy, and it was really fun to have them there.” 

Yorktown 71, Peekskill 51 

Friday, Jan. 30, Yorktown High School 

Worden (17 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists), Morhardt (17 points, 5 rebounds), and Tyler Galante (9 points) paved the way for the Huskers in their 71-51 victory against Peekskill.  

BYSNS Ice Hockey (11-3)  

BYSNS 8, ETBE/New Rochelle 3 

Wednesday, Jan. 28, Brewster Ice Arena 

Lucas Salvatore (4G, 2A), James Munoz (2G, 2A), Rilind Berisha (1G, 2A), Ryan Dean (2A), Henry Rossi (1G), Paul Rienzi (1A), Daniel Gilmore (1A) and Patrick Vaughn (24 saves) ignited BYSNS (Brewster/Yorktown/Somers/North Salem) to an 8-3 triumph against ETBE (Eastchester/Tuckahoe/Bronxville/Edgemont)/New Rochelle. 

“We were able to come out with this win because we played great as a team,” Dean said. “We stuck to the plan and played the same way we play throughout the whole game to get a dominant win. We outplayed them the whole game and played great overall.” 

Cortlandt Ice Hockey (6-9) 

Cortlandt 3, Fox Lane 1 

Sunday, Feb. 1, Brewster Ice Arena  

Sean Foley (2G, 1A), Hudson Tarkington (1G, 1A), Nate Herbert (2A), Stephen Kjartansson (1A), Matthew Lennox (1A), and Brandon Di Benedetto (27 saves) led the Rebels to a 3-1 senior-night victory.  

“It was a great showing for our seniors,” said Cortlandt coach Bart Mucci. “The boys played really hard.” 

Lennox, Kjartansson, Foley, Carmine Cusma, Mackinley Smith, Aiden Dzubak, and Joseph Recuppio were the seniors the Rebels honored before the game. 

Lakeland Boys Bowling (59-32)  

Lakeland 5, North Salem 2 

Wednesday, Jan. 28 

Lakeland defeated North Salem 5-2 in its season finale, led by Isaac Blundell (181, 527), Chris Gittelson (177, 498), Scottie Samoyedny (167, 457), Nicky Corbino (176, 418), Erdin Dedushaj (132, 260), and Ricky Peterson (148).  

Qualifying for the sectionals from Lakeland that will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Fishkill Bowl is Vinny Benedetto.

Yorktown 7, John Jay-CR 0 

Wednesday, Jan. 28 

Gianluca Marchini (188, 500), Chase Reynolds (174, 458), Gianluca Pearson (156, 439), Hunter Mezzatesta (155, 385), and Michael Desiderio (166, 366) helped Yorktown shut out John Jay-Cross River 7-0.

Reynolds (256. 597), Mezzatesta (185, 401), Marchini (138, 360), Ryan Kerrigan (140, 252), Alex Palmentiero (142, 228), Chris Collins (133), and Pearson (116) propelled Yorktown to a 7-0 season-ending victory against Peekskill.

Yorktown won against John Jay-Cross River 7-0, paced by Zoe Yau (134, 381), Kayla DiSanzo (143, 355), Phoebe Banner (123, 312), Ava Kelly (116, 286), Lilah Kelly (81, 159), and Stella Amenn (94).

Yorktown’s season concluded with a 7-0 win versus Peekskill, led by Amenn (124, 322), Banner (110, 292), Lilah Kelly (102, 279), Ava Kelly (114, 271), and DiSanzo (157, 264).

Mimi Bergen (99, 276),  Juliana Saponara (125, 270), Yelena Saliveros (113,174), Leah Flaherty (89, 167), Molly Shubert (104), Delancy Bray (97), Nada Elfgeeh (95), and Theo Bray (86) helped Lakeland end its season with a 5-2 triumph against Briarcliff.
