Burfeind: ‘Make it your own’

Posted

Good morning graduates, families, faculty, and honored guests. It is a true privilege to stand before you today as we celebrate this important milestone.

On behalf of the Board of Education, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the graduating Class of 2026. Today marks not only the culmination of your high school journey, but also the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your lives.

Graduates, each of you arrived here with your own unique story, and today you leave with something even more powerful—a shared experience that has helped shape who you are and who you are becoming. Over the years, you have grown not only academically, but as individuals. You have learned how to think critically, work collaboratively, and navigate challenges with resilience and determination.

You have reached this moment during a time of constant change, one that has required adaptability, perseverance, and strength. And you have risen to meet those challenges. You have not only gained knowledge in your classrooms, but you have also developed the character, perspective, and confidence that will carry you forward.

As you sit here today, you represent so much more than a graduating class. You are leaders, innovators, artists, athletes, problem-solvers, and engaged citizens. Each of you has your own path ahead—whether it leads to college, career, military service, or new opportunities still to be discovered. No matter where that path takes you, know that your voice matters and your contributions will make a difference.

I encourage you to carry forward not just what you have learned, but who you have become. Stay curious. Continue to ask questions and seek understanding. Embrace challenges as opportunities to grow. Success is rarely a straight line, and often it is the obstacles you face that shape you most.

At the same time, remember the importance of integrity, kindness, and compassion. These qualities will define your impact far more than any title or achievement. The world you are entering needs thoughtful, engaged individuals who are willing to listen, to learn, and to lead with purpose.

Never forget where you came from. The relationships you have built—with your teachers, your classmates, and your families—have helped guide you to this moment. Carry those lessons and connections with you. They are part of your foundation and will remain a source of strength in the years ahead.

To the families and educators here today: thank you. Your support, encouragement, and belief in these graduates have made this day possible. This achievement is yours as well.

Graduates, as you move forward, there will be moments of uncertainty. Embrace them. There will be challenges. Learn from them. And there will be successes—celebrate them, while remaining grounded and grateful.

Today, you close one chapter and you are beginning to write the next. Make it meaningful. Make it bold. Make it your own. The future is not something that simply happens—it is something you will help create.

On behalf of the Board of Education, congratulations, Class of 2026. We are incredibly proud of you, we believe in you, and we look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish. Keep in touch!

Thank you, and best wishes to you all.
