Posted

The unofficial start of summer arrives in Yorktown Saturday as Junior Lake Pool opens for the 2026 season.

Located at 1939 Edgewater St., the community pool will welcome residents beginning May 23.

“Providing our community with access to safe, clean swimming facilities is vital for promoting physical fitness across all age groups,” said Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman in a press release Friday. “More importantly, teaching our children basic swimming skills is an essential investment in their safety. These are foundational, lifesaving skills that prevent tragedies and build confidence that lasts a lifetime.”

Junior Lake Pool will remain open through Aug. 16.

The schedule for the 2026 season is:

  • Weekends and holidays: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Weekdays from May 25 to June 5: Closed

  • Weekdays from June 8 to June 26: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Weekdays from June 29 to Aug. 14: Noon to 7 p.m.

Town officials said residents must have a valid 2026 pool pass to enter the facility. Physical and digital ID cards will be accepted.

Passes may be purchased online through Community Pass or in person at the Recreation Office. Applicants must provide proof of residency either online through a household account or in person.

Officials said ID cards issued between 2021 and 2025 may be automatically reactivated when residents renew the same membership type for 2026.

The ID Office, located at 1974 Commerce St., Room 122, will operate weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sept. 7. Additional evening hours will be available Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. through June 17, and Saturday hours from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. through June 20. The office will be closed May 23.

The Brian J. Slavin Aquatic Facility in Shrub Oak is scheduled to open June 20, town officials said. The renovated pool complex will remain open daily through Sept. 7.
