CARMEL, N.Y.—Across town, conversations often turn to the meaning of community and what it truly means to be a part of Yorktown. Jennie Menton, a longtime resident, embodies that spirit. She’s been honored as a Woman of Distinction. The awards were bestowed by state Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) at a ceremony at Carmel Town Hall last month. He honored seven women, one from each town within his 94th Assembly District, including Menton, a longtime resident and community volunteer, saying they all “serve as an example of the values of their communities.”

“It’s truly an honor to stand alongside these remarkable women who represent the very best of our communities,” Slater said. “They go above and beyond, both personally and professionally, and remind us of the power of compassion and real leadership. In a time when selflessness is increasingly rare, these women set a shining example.”

Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman praised Menton’s dedication to the community, highlighting her leadership as chair of the Senior Advisory Committee, her volunteer work with Support Connection, and the many other ways she consistently shows up for her neighbors and community.

“Jennie has been a beacon of community involvement for years in Yorktown,” he said. “Her dedication to the town, our seniors and especially her work with Support Connection helping those fighting breast and ovarian cancers, makes her the perfect recipient to represent Yorktown as a Woman of Distinction.”
