It was a busy week heading into the break with locals in action on the hardwood, ice, and lanes.
YORKTOWN BOYS BASKETBALL (5-0)
Yorktown 81, Carmel 57
Monday, Dec. 15, Yorktown High School
Connor Morhardt (34 points, eight rebounds), Franklin Ringel (11 points, seven rebounds, four blocks), and Lucas Schrade (11 points) led Yorktown to an 81-57 victory against Carmel.
The game was a rematch of last season’s Section 1 Class AA opening-round contest at second-seeded Yorktown, which defeated No. 15 Carmel 50-37.
Yorktown 72, Brewster 38
Wednesday, Dec. 17, Yorktown High School
Yorktown defeated Brewster 72-38 to sweep the season series from the Bears, paced by Morhardt (25 points, five rebounds), Colin Worden (13 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists), and Ringel (14 points, 19 rebounds).
The win improved Yorktown’s home record to 24-1 over the past two-plus seasons. The Huskers’ last home loss came against Lakeland, 52-44, on Dec. 1, 2023.
The Huskers won the first game of the series against the Bears on opening night, 80-45, at Brewster on Dec. 5.
Yorktown 41, Mahopac 29
Friday, Dec. 19, Mahopac High School
The Huskers took the second and final game of the season series against Mahopac, winning 41-29, ignited by Morhardt (17 points), Ringel (nine points, six rebounds, five blocks), Worden (eight points, 14 rebounds, five assists), and Sean Davis (three points, seven rebounds, two assists).
Yorktown won the first meeting between the two local rivals 56-43 at Yorktown on Dec. 12.
“The key to our team win last night was our togetherness and how scrappy and how much we battled all 32 minutes of the game,” Morhardt said.
LAKELAND BOYS BASKETBALL (3-3)
Lakeland 88, Gorton 27
Monday, Dec. 15, Hendrick Hudson High School
Paced by Mateo Lugo (19 points), Mikey Lucia (15 points), Luke Lulanaj (12 points), and Anthony Ray (11 points), Lakeland defeated Gorton 88-27 in the opening round of the Jack Maguire Holiday Tournament.
Hendrick Hudson 82, Lakeland 66
Tuesday, Dec. 16, Hendrick Hudson High School
Hendrick Hudson defeated Lakeland 82-66 in the championship game of the Jack Maguire Holiday Tournament. Earning all-tournament honors for the Hornets were Ray (23 points) and Lugo (13 points).
Lulanaj led Lakeland in rebounds with seven while tallying 11 points.
Horace Greeley 60, Lakeland 34
Monday, Dec. 22, Horace Greeley High School
Lakeland fell to Horace Greeley, which entered the game ranked No. 20 in Class AA in the state, 60-34.

Thursday, Dec. 18, Brewster Ice Arena
Lucas Salvatore (two goals, one assist), James Munoz (one goal, two assists), Henry Rossi (two assists), Daniel Gilmore (first varsity goal), Kieran Ryan (first varsity goal), and Patrick Vaughn (13 saves) propelled Brewster/Yorktown/Somers/North Salem to a 5-1 victory against Fox Lane.
BYSNS 4, Carmel 2
Friday, Dec. 19, Brewster Ice Arena
BYSNS won its fifth straight game to open the season, defeating Carmel 4-2, led by Salvatore (two goals, two assists), Rilind Berisha (one goal, one assist), Munoz (two assists), Ryan Dean (one assist), Jordan Millar (one assist), and Vaughn (18 saves).
“The key to getting that win was playing defense,” Dean said. “At some points in the game our play in the neutral zone was poor. We eventually fixed that and our great defense led to the offense, which got us our goals.”
Pelham 5, BYSNS 3
Sunday, Dec. 21, Brewster Ice Arena
Pelham beat BYSNS 5-3 to hand the Bisons their first loss of the season.
Leading the Bisons were Salvatore (two goals, one assist), Berisha (one goal, one assist), Munoz (one assist), Millar (one assist), and Vaughn (28 saves).
CORTLANDT REBELS (3-6)
Pawling 6, Cortlandt 1
Monday, Dec. 15, Tirell Ice Rink at Trinity-Pawling School
Cortlandt’s Hudson Tarkington scored a first-period goal, assisted by Matthew Lennox, to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead, but Pawling came back to earn a 6-1 win.
Brandon Di Benedetto made 34 saves for the Rebels.
Cortlandt 7, Pearl River 2
Tuesday, Dec. 16, Bear Mountain Ice Rink
Two goals by Aidan Dzubak, followed by a goal from Anthony Costa, all in the first period, put the Rebels up 3-0, and they didn’t look back in a 7-2 victory.
“We got a much-needed win tonight,” Cortlandt coach Bart Mucci said. “The team has been playing pretty well and finally got rewarded.”
Sean Foley (one goal), Tarkington (one goal), and Di Benedetto (26 saves) also contributed to the victory.
Greeley-John Jay-Cross River 4, Cortlandt 1
Saturday, Dec. 20, Brewster Ice Arena
Stephen Kjartansson (one goal), Foley (one assist), and Di Benedetto (32 saves) led the Rebels in their 4-1 loss to Greeley-John Jay-Cross River.
Cortlandt 6, Mahopac 3
Sunday, Dec. 21, Brewster Ice Arena
Dzubak (one goal, three assists), Foley (three goals), Tarkington (two goals), Costa (one assist), and Di Benedetto (35 saves) ignited Cortlandt to a 6-3 win against Mahopac.
“It was good to get a win going into the break,” Mucci said, as his team jumped out to a 4-1 first-period lead.
The Rebels’ next game will be against BYSNS at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Brewster Ice Arena.
