Yorktown earned its biggest win of the season with a 3-1 triumph against Byram Hills, which entered the game winners of eight in a row after a 0-1-2 start.
Haniel Flores (3A), Colin Worden (2G), Gavin Cusack (1G), and Antonio Spiniello (5 saves) ignited the Huskers to the win.
“It (the win) meant a lot, considering we have not been in usual form recently,” Worden said. “We played a very talented Byram team and we knew today was going to be a challenge. We won by staying true to our tactics, following coaches instructions, and we executed well.”

Monday, Oct. 6, Yorktown High School
Spiniello recorded 3 saves in the Huskers’ 2-0 loss to Ossining.

Wednesday, Oct. 8, Fox Lane High School
Yorktown tied Fox Lane 0-0 with Joe Popovic registering 2 saves for the Huskers.
The Hornets delivered a pair of wins to go over .500.
Lakeland 4, Peekskill 2
Monday, Oct. 6, Lakeland High School
Lakeland came away with a 4-2 triumph against Peekskill, a Section 1 Class AA semifinalist from a season ago, led by Vinny Karaqi (3G, 1A).
“Getting that first one directly off the corner kick really got us going and set the tone early,” Karaqi said. “After that, everyone was locked in and we just kept the energy up. We stayed aggressive, created chances, and finished strong. It was a great team win.”
Matteo DiLaura (1G, 1A) and Mason Eynon (5 saves) stood out as well for the Hornets.

Friday, Oct. 10, Poughkeepsie High School
Lakeland won its fourth game in a row and six of its last seven contests, with a 4-0 victory against Poughkeepsie, paced by Luke Gomes (1G), Nick Ahmataj (1G), Owen Becker (1G), DiLaura (1G), Lucas Boyko (1A), Eynon (3 saves), and Aiden Plouffe (1 save).
Lakeland 2, John Jay-CR 1 (OT)
Monday, Oct. 6, Lakeland High School
Gianni Santini scored two goals, including the winner in overtime, in a 2-1 victory against John Jay-Cross River in a battle between two Section 1 Class B title contenders.
“My goal was scored on a corner, Riley Waters got a foul inside the circle with one minute left of overtime and our coach (Sharon Sarsen) told me to take a straight shot,” Santini said. “Meaghan Heyde (2A) inserted the ball to me and I took a straight shot, which went right into near post winning the game for us. I felt so excited to score because this game was so important for our season.”
Jenna Yazzetti (1 save) also contributed to the win.

Wednesday, Oct. 8, Lakeland High School
In another heavyweight contest, Mamaroneck, last year’s state Class A champions, defeated Lakeland, the 2024 state Class B finalist 2-0, with Yazzetti making 20 saves.

Yorktown fell 6-1 to Mamaroneck, paced by Anna Burns (1G), Ava Ryan (1A), and Sam Conboy (5 saves).

Lakeland defeated Pearl River 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-17), paced Kelly Mallon (25 digs, 18 kills), Sofia Cruz (14 kills, 12 assists), Lynae Petrosino (21 assists), and Mia Aquart (4 kills, 7 digs).

Lakeland was victorious against crosstown rival Yorktown 3-1 (25-15, 26-28, 25-20, 25-23), with Cruz (21 kills) tallying her 500th career kill.
“It meant a lot getting my 500th kill against Yorktown because it shows how far myself and the team have come since I started playing,” Cruz said.
Cruz said that she started playing volleyball in the summer going into seventh grade for the first time, before getting serious about the sport around Thanksgiving that same year.
Mallon (22 digs, 15 kills), Petrosino (30 assists), Caelyn Faison (10 kills), Aquart (5 kills), and Taryn Bruno (10 digs) also did damage for the Hornets.
Natalia Lyon (11 digs, 10 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces), Mia Riordan (16 assists, 3 aces, 1 block, 2 digs), Nina Fasce (14 assists, 9 digs, 1 ace), Haley Allen (17 digs, 3 assists, 2 aces, 1 kill), Emma McCoy (5 digs, 8 kills, 1 block), and Kailey Alexander (8 kills, 6 blocks, 1 dig) led Yorktown.

Lakeland defeated Nanuet 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-13, 25-14), led by Mallon (29 digs, 24 kills, 5 aces), Cruz (18 kills, 13 assists), Petrosino (37 assists, 5 aces), Faison (9 kills), Aquart (5 kills, 8 digs), and Bruno (9 digs).
Yorktown 3, Greeley 1
Monday, Oct. 6, Yorktown High School
Yorktown avenged an earlier regular-season defeat and one in last year’s Section 1 Class AA semifinals with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 28-26, 25-21) victory versus Horace Greeley, the eventual sectional champions in 2024.
Lyon (13 digs, 11 kills, 5 aces), Mia Riordan (4 digs, 6 aces, 20 assists), Fasce (7 digs, 18 aces), Allen (13 digs, 2 aces, 3 assists), and McCoy (3 digs, 15 kills, 1 block) helped propel the Huskers to the win.
“What allowed us to win was that our serves were strong and consistent, and we adjusted to their hitters quickly and stayed focused on every point,” Lyon said.
The win also held added significance for the Huskers because it was their Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness game, which was held to raise funds for American Cancer Society.

Lyon (7 kills), Kaitlyn Riordan (12 digs), Fasce (25 assists), Allen (12 digs, 5 aces), Ella Chibbaro (7 kills), Julia Amado (7 kills), and Kailey Alexander (4 blocks) led the Huskers in the aforementioned categories in Yorktown’s 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 29-27) victory against Fox Lane.

Yorktown beat Ossining 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-14), with Jack Brunner (5 aces, 18 assists) and Justin Sek (3 aces, 13 kills) stepping up for the Huskers.
“Being down our starting middle (Sid Shenoy, sickness) definitely was a challenge,” Sek said. “But we have so much depth this year and it contributes so much. All of our guys can go on the court and play and whenever they are called up, they’re ready. I think that was the key tonight because we had guys switching roles and filling in but they rose up to the occasion. We kept our energy and communication high which was definitely a big help as well.”

Lakeland swept Rye 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-8), led by Kevin Dominic (18 kills), Van Bui (17 assists), Delvin Anthony (12 assists, 2 kills), and Addison Cuevas (5 kills, 4 blocks).
“It felt great,” Dominic said of the win. “As a team, we played very well and everyone did their part. We still have to work on some parts of the game, but hopefully we can get them down before sectionals.”

Lakeland defeated Croton-Harmon on its senior night 8-3, with Emily Hahn (3G), Caroline Leonard (2G, 2A), Pace (1G, 1A), Maragaret Keating (1G), Gabriella Lobo (1G), Caroline Daly (1A), Kasey Chin (1A), Aislinn O’Grady (1A), Brooke Cappo (4 saves), and Calisi (3 saves) doing the damage for the Hornets.
“It meant everything to me to be successful with the amazing support of my team on such a special and memorable night,” Hahn said. “We all came together and played well for each other, good passing, good footwork and overall good communication. It was amazing for the team to come away with such a strong win on senior night and allow the seniors and the rest of the team to celebrate and then start preparing for the rest of the season.”
Danielle Benaroch, Chin (captain), Daly (captain), Brianna Gomes, Hahn (captain), Leonard (captain), Lobo, Maeve McConnell, Isabella Ramos-Cumiskey and Samantha DelPonte (captain) were the seniors honored before the game.

Yorktown’s Autumn Richards recorded 4 saves in the Huskers’ 1-0 loss to Clarkstown South on their senior night.
Mia Chee, Eva Monaco, Liv DelGaudio (captain) Lea Bryant, Mackenzie Meola, Izy Walling (captain), Amanda Linahan (captain), Sydney Soliz, Keira Mooney, and Richards were the Yorktown seniors honored before the non-league contest.
Brewster 41, Lakeland 13

Lakeland fell to Brewster 41-13, with Joe LaPeruta (12/15, 132 yards, 2 TDs; 10 rushes, 49 yards), Mike Zumatto (14 rushes, 36 yards; 5 catches, 32 yards, TD), Anthony Ray (4 catches, 48 yards), and Ben Franco (46-yard TD catch) leading Lakeland offensively. Zumatto (9 tackles), Jesse DiPaola (5 tackles), Gio LaPeruta (5 tackles), and Frank Imbrogno (5 tackles) led the defensive effort.
The Hornets next game will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at Mahopac.
Lakeland/Panas/PV 75, Brewster 17

Lakeland/Panas/Putnam Valley defeated Brewster 75-17, with Symantha White (200-free, 2:16.78), Mila Johnson (200-IM, 2:50.35, 500-free, 6:45.30), Audrey Hoff (50-free, 29.78), and Brigid Callaghan (100-fly, 1:23.50, 100-back, 1:23.07) all earning first-place finishes.
The visitors also took first place in the 200-medley (2:11.45), 200-free (2:17.42), and 400-free (4:45.91) relays.
SHEDI 94, Yorktown-Somers 74

SHEDI (Sleepy Hollow/Edgemont/Irvington) defeated Yorktown-Somers 94-74, with Katie Kurth (100-free, 57.79), the 200-medley relay (2:00.17), and the 400-medley relay (4:19.61) taking first place for the visitors.
