SHRUB OAK, N.Y.—This month’s art exhibit at the John C. Hart Memorial Library, “Children of the World,” features photographs and multimedia collages by artists Ilene Schwartz-Montesinos and Martha Gingrich.
The exhibit opened on Dec. 3 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 29 and there will be a reception open to all in the library’s Community Room on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Ilene Schwartz-Montesinos
A photographer with a lifelong love of art and nature. Ilene Schwartz-Montesinos is a 30-year Yorktown resident. Her images of the natural world allow others to see with fresh eyes and in ways that might not be immediately obvious to the casual viewer. By bringing you into the center of a flower, a close-up of a lion in Africa, or the intricate spirals of a fern, she takes the viewer into a new world that excites the imagination and opens the heart to the natural world.
More recently she has begun taking photographs of children as she travels the world. The Hart exhibit showcases photographs of children from five different continents.
Schwartz-Montesinos's work has been seen in solo and group exhibitions at many galleries, libraries, and museums in the Greater New York area as well as in an international online show.
Martha Stevens Gingrich
An artist, photographer, and writer, Martha Stevens Gingrich has a passion for the interconnections between man and nature.
She uses a wide range of techniques and media—from the quirky to the conventional. Her work on exhibit at Hart Library—which includes her multimedia collages as well as her doodles—focuses on the enjoyment and the angst of childhood.
Her work has been shown in New York and in the Midwest, where she’s participated for several years at The Outsider Art Show at the Judith Racht Gallery in Harbert, Michigan.
