The Swing Era came alive at Yorktown High School’s 17th annual Swing Dance Concert on Feb. 7 as students and guests swung, twirled, and tapped their way through hits by Glenn Miller and the Andrews Sisters. Students from the Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble performed classics including "In the Mood" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," along with other favorites from the era.
Local historian Paul Martin brought World War II memorabilia and was joined by living history reenactors in authentic WWII uniforms and Swing Era attire. Guests of all ages tried the Shim Sham line dance and cheered on dancers in a contest with separate student and adult categories. Weeks of learning swing steps in rehearsal paid off as students put the rhythm in their feet and the music in the air.
