Edith Rosenstrach passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026 from complications due to heart failure. She was 92. She spent her final days in the company of her close family, sharing memories and enjoying her favorite music and Broadway shows.

Edith was born on May 6, 1934 in the Bronx to Ephraim and Sylvia Malamud. She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and was the first member of her family to go to college, earning a Bachelors in Education from The City College of New York and a Master’s in Education from The University of Connecticut. She worked a full career as a Primary School teacher in New York City. In addition to being a skilled educator beloved by her students and colleagues, Edith was a highly accomplished amateur photographer, and exhibited her works at hospitals, libraries and galleries, and was featured in an exhibit in the Empire State Building.

Edith loved to socialize, play mahjong, listen to showtunes and classical music, attend lectures, enjoy movies and most of all be in company with her close friends and her family, especially her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan and Sarah, of whom she was endlessly proud.

In retirement, she and her husband Jerry travelled through Europe, Africa and the US pursuing the perfect picture as members of the Westchester Photographic Society. After losing Jerry, her beloved husband for 57 years, she rediscovered loving companionship with longtime family friend Oscar Rosenes, to whom she became engaged. They enjoyed five wonderful years together until his passing. Oscar’s daughters and their families added to Edith’s joy and love in her final years.

Edith is predeceased by her husband Jerry, her fiancé Oscar, and sister-in-law Gerda. She is survived by her sons Jeff and his wife Susan, and Paul and his wife Lauren, twin grandchildren, Jonathan and Sarah, brother Bernard, nephew Norbert and his wife Linda, and grand niece and nephew Ethan and Zoe.

Funeral Services will be observed at Yorktown Funeral Home at noon Tuesday, July 21, with a graveside interment service immediately following at King David Cemetery in Putnam Valley.
