Doris E. Parker, formerly of Mohegan Lake, New York, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, at the age of 98.

Born in Averill Park, New York, in 1928, Doris was the daughter of Oliver and Josephine Baxter. She enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1950 during the Korean War and served for four years as a Tradevman Second Class, where she trained device technicians who maintained and operated flight simulators and aviation training equipment.

While serving in the Navy, Doris met Alvin A. Parker. They married in 1956, in the Catholic Naval Chapel at the Naval Air Station Coronado in San Diego, California. They settled in Ardsley, NY and soon found adventures abroad as Alvin taught mathematics at U.S. Air Force Dependent Schools in Turkey, Germany, and Japan. These experiences fostered Doris’s lifelong curiosity, adaptability, and appreciation for different cultures.

After returning to the United States, they settled in Mohegan Lake, New York, and became devoted parishioners of St. Patrick’s Church and active members of their community. Doris dedicated part of her career to education, teaching mathematics and social studies in the Yorktown school system. She later worked for the United States Postal Service, from which she retired after years of faithful service.

Doris will be remembered for her quick wit, caring spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren. While living in Japan, she studied Ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging, and she also developed a lifelong love of gardening. Her gardens produced endless assortments of vegetables that were enjoyed by family and friends during summer days together. She found great joy in nurturing both her vegetable garden and relationships, creating lasting memories for those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin; her son, Joseph Parker of Mohegan Lake; her sister, Mildred Farley of Schenectady, New York; and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Elisabeth Beardsley, and son-in-law, Douglas Beardsley, of Tennessee; her grandchildren, Shane Parker, Travis Parker, Heather Brewer (Derick), and Dalton Beardsley (Bizzy Martin); and her nieces Trish Sprague (Ed) and Laura Belcastro, as well as numerous extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

She also treasured the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life and will be deeply missed by her dear friends Raya Arisian, Gary and Jaquie Lesowitz, Marianne and Joe Picardi, and many others whose lives were enriched by her kindness, humor, and generous heart.
