David B. Hannan

David B. Hannan, born in 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio to Bernard T. and Charlotte [née Barton] Hannan, was a dedicated and admired teacher and coach. He was a photography and nature enthusiast and active in the community who worked to make local roads safer and was a Board Member and treasurer for The Dance Theatre of Westchester.

Having earned his Masters in Education and Science, as a teacher he was highly skilled in a variety of subjects such as geology, chemistry, carpentry, firearms safety, lifeguarding, auto mechanics, culinary arts and urban forestry. He was a part of VICA [Vocational Industrial Clubs of America], an organization that supported efforts to train students in various trades. He and his students won numerous awards for their efforts. During his time at B.O.C.E.S. he organized a team for “Relay for Life” to bring awareness to and fundraising for cancer research. David also spent ten years as a Marianist brother and twenty years as a family businessman with Manhattan Coat Corporation. In his fifties he achieved his black belt status in Tae Kwon Do.

A fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Browns, Ohio State and Notre Dame, cowboy movies and songs, potato chips and pancakes.

He was proud of being a teacher, he was proud of being from Cleveland and proud of his Irish heritage.

David was most proud of his family, proud of his grandparents, proud of his parents, and his brothers and sisters, their spouses and all his nieces and nephews.

He was also proud to be a son-in-law to E. James and Mary Mancini, and brother-in-law and uncle to his very loved nephews.

David was dedicated to his family and loved finding adventures for us.

He is pre-deceased by his sister Charlotte Hannan and his brother Harry Hannan. David “Dad” is survived by his wife, Helen S. [née Mancini] Hannan, his daughters MaryRose Hannan, Letitia Hannan, Anne Hannan Capel and his son-in-law Neil Capel, his brother Tom Hannan and sister-in-law Peggy Hannan, his sister Bernadette Anderson and her husband Scott Anderson, sister-in-law Kritty Hannan, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Fernando and Letitia [née Mancini] Pasqualone and Steven and Mary Elizabeth [née Mancini] Olsen, and many, many nieces and nephews who loved him.

He will be dearly, dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's name to the Paws Crossed Animal Shelter in Elmsford or the American Cancer Society.
