Concetta “Connie” Sassano, a loving, selfless, and generous woman, passed away on Oct. 8, 2026 surrounded by her family, in Westchester County, New York, at the age of 94.
Born on Feb. 23, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, Connie lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the quiet acts of care that spoke so clearly of her character. She was born in Brooklyn where she met and married her husband, Michael. They moved to Long Island where they started and raised their family. She was married to Michael until his death in 2022; they were married for 69 years. Following Michael’s passing, she moved to Westchester County NY where she could be closer to her son and his family. Connie carried with her the values of her Catholic faith throughout her life, and those values were reflected in the way she welcomed others, offered comfort, and gave of herself without hesitation. She was the kind of person who made others feel at home, and her presence brought warmth and steadiness to those around her.
Connie worked as a seamstress prior to moving to Long Island, a vocation that reflected her patience, skill, and attention to detail. Through her work, she contributed not only with her hands but also with the pride and diligence that defined her approach to life. She understood the importance of doing things well and with care, and that same spirit extended into everything she did. Whether through her work or through her daily life, she demonstrated a quiet strength and a deep sense of responsibility. When she and Michael started a family, she stayed at home to raise her children with a deep love.
Above all else, Connie treasured her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael, and together they shared a life rooted in love and commitment. She was a devoted mother to Donna and Louis, and her children were a source of great pride and joy to her. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Rosario and Josephine, whose memory remained with her always. Connie held her family close to her heart and found her greatest happiness in the bonds they shared.
She was a cherished grandmother to Christopher, Michael, Josi and Elli, and she took great joy in watching her family grow. Her grandchildren knew her as a loving and steady presence, someone who offered encouragement, comfort, and unconditional affection. Connie’s love extended across generations, and her family will long remember the kindness she showed, the meals she prepared, and the many ways she made ordinary moments feel special.
Cooking was one of Connie’s great pleasures, and it was one of the many ways she expressed her love. She found joy in preparing food for the people she cared about, and her kitchen was often a place of warmth, conversation, and togetherness. Her family will remember not only the meals she made, but also the love she poured into them. In this way, Connie nourished both body and spirit, creating memories that will remain treasured for years to come.
Connie was deeply loved by all who knew her, and her generous heart left a lasting impression on her family and friends. She lived with grace, humility, and a genuine concern for others. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the beauty of a life devoted to family and faith. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Connie is survived by her son Louis and his wife, Jennifer, daughter Donna Marie Pirich and 4 grandchildren - Christopher, Michael Josi and Elli - along with many other relatives and friends who will forever hold her memory dear. Connie Sassano will be remembered with great affection and respect, and her life will be honored as one well lived, filled with love, devotion, and enduring care for others.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 am – 10:30 am at Yorktown Funeral Home in Yorktown NY on Saturday October 17, 2026, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Church in Cortlandt Manor, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Hospice of Westchester, 1025 Westchester Ave Suite 200 White Plains, NY 10604, or to an organization supporting Dementia or Alzheimer’s research.
