YORKTOWN, N.Y. —The Friends of the John C. Hart Memorial Library are preparing for Library Giving Day, an annual initiative dedicated to raising awareness and funds for local libraries through online giving.
Taking place on April 1, the nationwide event highlights the vital role libraries play in their communities. Angela Calderella, vice president of the Friends organization, said and emphasized the importance of spreading the word.
“So many people are not aware of the programs that are provided from the library,” Calderella told Yorktown News. One of her favorite services, she noted, is the Museum Pass service, which provides free access to institutions in the county and Manhattan—a benefit she said is made possible through support of the Friends.
To build momentum leading up to the day, the organization has sent out social media and email blasts throughout March. On April 1, they will also host an in-person donation table at the library in Shrub Oak, giving community members an opportunity to contribute directly.
