Clara Jane Cobey, 92, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

She was born September 22, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Philip and Sadie Guercio and was part of a large and loving family as one of eight brothers and sisters who predeceased her.

The family moved to Hyde Park, NY where Clara attended Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. She loved literature and poetry, especially Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and excelled at shorthand, typing, and was astute with numbers. Clara was a cheerleader and active participant in student government and after graduation worked for various firms in Poughkeepsie, NY as a bookkeeper.

She was the devoted wife of Richard Clark Cobey and is survived by son Richard Cobey Jr. and wife Malathy: son Philip Cobey and wife Victoria; and daughter Susan Williamson and husband Peter. Clara was a loving and cherished grandmother to grandson Ryan Cobey and wife Cecilia: granddaughter Amanda Whitley and husband Matthew; granddaughter Sadie Williamson; and grandson Jack Williamson.

While raising her family Clara took college classes, completing extensive research on the Franklin D. Roosevelt estate, and also enjoyed the local bowling league, as a "Morning Muffin."

After the passing of her husband in 2002 she moved to Pound Ridge, NY to spend time with her family. She loved cooking and baking and was especially renowned for her apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, and "sauce on Sundays." Clara will be greatly missed by all those who have been fortunate enough to know her but her smile and sweet nature will stay in our hearts forever.

Visitation took place at Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home, on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
