Yorktown opens at Central Valley

Leading Yorktown into this season will be Tyler Caricati (RB/LB, 6-foot, 190-pound senior, All-League, and All-Conference last year, All-League in 2024), who is committed to Skidmore College to play lacrosse.

“Tyler is an awesome athlete, our workhorse back,” said Pantelis Ypsilantis, who’s in his seventh year as varsity head coach at Yorktown, 13th year as a varsity coach in Yorktown, and 20th year of varsity football overall. “He’s always falling forward and getting tough yards. He’s also an excellent linebacker on defense, makes plays all over the place and a very hard worker. I expect him to continue to rise and be one of the best running backs in the section this year and expand his contributions in the passing game.”

Yorktown, which was 4-5 and qualified for the Section 1 Class A Tournament in 2025, opens this season at Valley Central, 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.

Every game on Yorktown’s schedule is going to be a battle, with strong programs all over the area.

“We must prepare to execute our assignments and play one play at a time, one game at a time, one week at a time,” Ypsilantis said. “You cannot look backward or forward; live in the moment, seize the moment, and make it yours. Embrace the grind.”

Embracing the grind as a lethal runner and passer is Eamon Coney (QB/DB, 5-10, 165, senior, All-League).

“He is a true dual-threat QB and is a playmaking defensive back,” Ypsilantis said. “Eamon has a nose for the end zone, scoring 11 TDs on the ground and adding two passing touchdowns. He is an excellent tackler and a smart, instinctive player. He is explosive, and I expect him to command the offense and make plays all over the field.”

The Huskers’ defensive QB is Anthony Cappelli (TE/LB, 5-10, 190, senior, All-League).

“I expect him to continue to make strides, improve, and continue his stout play in the middle,” Ypsilantis said. “He made some huge, game-changing plays last year, and I expect him to continue to create turnovers and play with aggression and enthusiasm and contribute on the offensive side of the ball.”

Jaden Renzo’s (WR/DB, 6-foot, 175, senior, All-League) play just got better and better every week last year.

“He is a punishing tackler and also made some game-changing plays at critical times late in the year,” Ypsilantis said. “I expect him to continue that trajectory and make plays while playing a sound, smart game in the secondary. I also expect him to contribute offensively this season with his speed and elusiveness.”

Aidan Concannon (WR/DB, 6-foot, 160-pound junior, All-League), who committed to Army at West Point for lacrosse, brings the wood and lays the boom.

“He is a great athlete and had an awesome year as a sophomore as an anchor in our secondary last year,” Ypsilantis said. “I expect Aidan to continue to be in the right spots and be an awesome tackler, but to take it to the next level to use his length, athleticism, and intelligence to make more explosive plays in the secondary and create turnovers. I also expect him to impact the offense as a receiver this year.”

Jarron Sligh (RB/DB, 5-8, 150 junior) is a great athlete with crazy football instincts.

“He had limited opportunities last year as a sophomore, but impacted several games on both offense and defense,” Ypsilantis said. “I expect Jarron to take a big step forward and make explosive plays on both sides of the football, as well as being a key special teams contributor.”

While Yorktown lost a large group of seniors from last year, it had a number of key contributors who were underclassmen, and their play became more impactful as the season wore on.

“I expect those guys to take a huge jump,” Ypsilantis said. “The improvement in their play has been evident as a result of the offseason training they put in and their dedication to the team and each other.  I love the core we have. They work hard, do what the coaches ask of them, and play for each other. They represent the Y with great pride and integrity.”
