SHRUB OAK, N.Y. —The Lakeland Central School District Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting on July 2, swearing in Becky Burfeind as president and Michael Daly as vice president for the 2025–26 school year.

A Cortlandt Manor resident since 2002 and a Board of Education trustee for four years, Burfeind — whose two children graduated from Walter Panas High School — steps into the role after previously serving as vice president. She succeeds Adam Kaufman, who will continue to serve on the board as a trustee.

Outside of work with the Board of Education, she is the office manager at a financial planning firm specializing in personalized retirement planning, according to her bio on the Lakeland Schools website. She has volunteered in the Lakeland Central School District for nearly two decades, serving in various PTA roles at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School and Walter Panas High School, including the Building Emergency Response Team (BERT) and president of the Panas Parent Club at WPHS.

Like Burfeind, Daly is active in the Lakeland Schools community. He has lived in Yorktown Heights since 1997, and his three children all graduated from Lakeland High School, his school bio said. He currently serves on the Management Policy Committee, the District Youth Council, and the Facilities Committee.

Daly served as treasurer of the Lakeland Education Foundation from 2008 to 2015 and currently directs the Shrub Oak Athletic Club’s girls’ basketball program, where he also coaches.

Outside of the school community, he is a senior vice president and financial advisor at an internationally recognized financial services firm in White Plains.
