Lakeland and Yorktown Central School District residents are heading to the polls Tuesday, May 19, for the annual budget vote and election.
Here’s everything voters should know.
The proposed $202,072,582 budget represents a 2.62 percent increase over 2025–26. The tax levy would rise 2.20 percent, the maximum allowed under the state cap, up from 1.8 percent this year. Tax impacts will vary across the district, which includes Yorktown, Mahopac (Town of Carmel), Cortlandt, Philipstown, Putnam Valley and Somers.
A vehicle proposition seeks $2,130,813 for the purchase of 18 vehicles: six buses, five 30-passenger vans, three 20-passenger vans, one SUV and three trucks, including a plow. The district has a pending waiver from the state’s 2035 electric bus mandate. A budget hearing is scheduled for May 5 at the administration building.
Five candidates are running for three Board of Education seats. In ballot order, they are incumbent Christopher Eustace, challenger James Hedberg, challenger Keith Baisley, incumbent Amanda Franco and challenger Patricia Martucci-Pace.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 19 at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School, 3100 E. Main St., Cortlandt Manor.
The proposed budget is $126,640,000, a 2.88 percent increase from last year’s $123,095,000.
The tax levy would rise 2.38 percent The estimated tax rate increase in Yorktown, which makes up more than 96 percent of the tax base, is 2.11 percent. New Castle and Cortlandt, each representing less than 2 percent of the tax base, are projected to see decreases of 6.90 percent and 9.98 percent, respectively.
In ballot order, the candidates for the Board of Education are challenger Adam MacDonald and incumbents Michael Magnani, Jacquelyn Guarino and Catalina Tyndal.
Two seats carry full three-year terms from July 1 through June 30, 2029. The third is an unexpired term, created by the resignation of former trustee Jackie Carbone, running from May 20 through June 30, 2027.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 19 at French Hill School, 2051 Baldwin Rd.
