SHRUB OAK, N.Y.—The Lakeland Board of Education has appointed Amanda Franco to fill the seat left vacant by Bryan Hoben, who resigned in August.
Franco will serve the remainder of Hoben’s term and remain on the board through May 2026, when the next budget vote and school board election are scheduled.
She was appointed during the board’s Oct. 9 meeting. It was not immediately clear if the district issued a communitywide notification of the appointment.
According to her bio on the Board of Education website, Franco is a longtime Yorktown Heights resident who has spent 17 of her 25 years as an educator in special education.
“She is passionate about creating supportive and engaging learning environments for all students,” her bio said.
A parent of two Lakeland High School students, Franco volunteers with youth and high school sports.
“Her firsthand experience as both an educator and parent provides a valuable perspective on the importance of strong school and community partnerships,” her bio said, adding that she “looks forward to contributing her experience and insight to support student success and expand opportunities across the district.”
