More than $1 million in federal funding is headed to Yorktown to expand public sewer service to neighborhoods currently served by residential septic systems.

Rep. Mike Lawler shared a video online Thursday about the $1.25 million he secured earlier this year for the Yorktown Hallocks Mill Sewer District Extension Project as part of the $31 million fiscal year 2026 appropriations package for NY-17.

“This investment will help our drinking water, improve public health, and modernize critical infrastructure right here in Yorktown,” Lawler said in the video.

Standing in front of Sparkle Lake, Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman thanked Lawler in the video for securing the funding and said the grant will help make the sewer expansion project more feasible.

The project is part of the town’s broader effort to extend sewer service to homes in the area. Lachterman said more than 600 homes near Sparkle Lake currently rely on septic systems, with nearly 700 homes included in the broader project area.

The town is planning three separate projects to extend sewer service to the homes.

“We're trying to get about half of who got in the first wave,” Lachterman said in the video. “This 1.25 million goes a long way and trying to make this a feasible project.”

Lawler said the infrastructure investments will benefit local residents while helping protect the Croton Reservoir, a key part of the New York City water supply system, and improve local water quality.
