YORKTOWN, N.Y. —Yorktown police have arrested a 47-year-old Fairview, New Jersey, resident on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, a Class D felony, following a multi-jurisdictional police pursuit in November of last year that ended in Putnam County.

The arrest of Noel Mendez on Tuesday, Feb. 18, stems from an incident on Nov. 27, 2024, when at around 11 a.m., when Yorktown police were involved in a pursuit of a vehicle allegedly operated by Mendez. After entering Yorktown, Mendez, aware he was being ordered to stop, continued fleeing from police at high speeds, exceeding the posted speed limit. He also drove against traffic, forcing other drivers to swerve to avoid collisions.

Police said Mendez committed several traffic violations while fleeing. The chase ended in Putnam County, where New York State Police, assisted by Yorktown officers and others, arrested Mendez. In addition to the felony charge, Mendez was also charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing from a police officer, a Class A misdemeanor, and reckless driving, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Earlier this week, Mendez was brought to the Yorktown Police Department by the Westchester County Police and arrested on a warrant issued by Yorktown police. After processing, he was arraigned and ordered to appear in court on March 4 at 6 p.m.

Yorktown police said that after his arraignment, Mendez was turned back over to the Westchester County Police and returned to Putnam County Jail.
