YORKTOWN, N.Y.—On Jan. 24, Troop 164 hosted a ceremony at Saint Andrew’s Evangelical Church in Yorktown to celebrate five Scouts who earned their Eagle Scout rank.
The Scouts honored were Brenna Ashling Rosario, Devin Anthony Tudose, Mario DiPaola-Gulli, Henry Laszle Renken, and Marc DeAcutis.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Supervisor Sergio Esposito, Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg (95th District), Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman, New York State Assemblyman Matt Slater (94th District), and Town of Putnam Valley Supervisor Jacqueline Annabi. State Senator Pete Harckham also provided a proclamation recognizing the Scouts’ amazing achievements.
Although Marc DeAcutis was unable to attend, he was acknowledged for his accomplishment.
The projects included:
Brenna Ashling Rosario
Brenna Rosario’s project created an oasis for pollinators and birds surrounding a statue of St. Kateri, the patron saint of the environment and ecology at St. Augustine’s Church. It involved the planting of shrubs to increase pollination in the area, and the creation of a walkway to allow parishioners access to the location. There are also signs in the surrounding area to bring attention to and list facts about the saint, as well as a bird bath and house to create additional habitats. People passing by are now able to appreciate the beauty of and understand the mission and background of St. Kateri.
Henry Laszle Renken
Henry's Eagle service project was to build two cold frames for Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center. These cold frames allow newly emerged seedlings to survive harsh weather and offer protection from animals while they grow to maturity. The boxes will be used primarily in Hilltop Hanover's native plant biodiversity program.
Marc DeAcutis
Marc’s Eagle service project was to build an outdoor space, where he built two picnic tables, cleaned up the bedding area, and laid down black mulch to add a finishing touch for the Somers’ Highway Department to utilize for recreation use.
Devin Anthony Tudose
Devin’s Eagle project entails restoring the Rochambeau Memorial and making the Yorktown Grange entrance more appealing. This project accomplished several goals. The memorial stone has been cleaned, the surrounding mulch and stonework have been restored, the flagpole has been replaced, a broken section of fencing has been fixed, the bushes in front of the Grange have been weeded, mulched, and trimmed and finally, a rotted tree stump and several expired signs have been removed and properly concealed.
Mario DiPaola Gulli
Mario’s Eagle project was to remove all damaged wood posts and rail fences throughout the Yorktown Grange grounds. There were 12 damaged wood rails, five damaged wood fence posts, and four damaged corner wood fence posts. He replaced them all, bringing the fences back to their original state.
Special recognition should go to the leaders of Troop 164 who supported these Scouts on their journey, including Scoutmasters John Griffiths and Freddie DeAcutis, as well as assistant Scoutmasters Tom Marron, Keith Holmes, Sally Stevens, Etta Griffiths, and Basim Newby. Troop 164 also extends its heartfelt thanks to Pastor David Dockweiler for hosting the Eagle Scout ceremony at Saint Andrew’s Evangelical Church.
Correction: The Jan. 30 print edition of Yorktown News misspelled Henry Laszle Renken's middle name. We regret the error.
