A teenage worker at BJ’s Wholesale Club was injured after being “punched and shoved” multiple times by two adults.
Police said Yorktown residents Albert DeJesus, 53, and Daina Matos, 54, got into an altercation with the teen worker at the store on Crompond Road on Jan. 17 around 5 p.m. The duo allegedly attacked the worker “multiple times recklessly,” causing physical injuries. Police didn’t release details about the victim’s condition.
This is not the first attack at the members-only retailer. On Father’s Day last year, a person was stabbed in the neck in the parking lot. At the time, local officials praised the arresting officer, saying the swift response prevented further harm or a worse outcome.
Police did not immediately say what sparked the confrontation last week, but after receiving a report of the fight, officers who responded arrested the duo at the scene. Both were taken to Yorktown Police Department headquarters for processing.
DeJesus and Matos were arraigned by a judge and a temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
Both were charged with third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor. They were released on their own recognizance and are scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.
