The Yorktown Town Board recognized Aug. 7 as National Purple Heart Day and reaffirmed the town’s designation as a Purple Heart Town. The proclamation honored members of the U.S. Armed Forces who were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country and recognized local residents who have received the Purple Heart Medal. Yorktown first declared itself a Purple Heart Town in 2013 following a resolution recommended by the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 21.
