YORKTOWN, N.Y.—The Yorktown Democratic slate formally committed to join two planned public forums and one debate ahead of the November election.
“These events are about giving voters the respect they deserve,” said Yorktown Democratic Committee Co-Chair Steven Shaw. “Yorktown residents should have the opportunity to hear directly from candidates, side by side, answering tough questions on the issues that matter most; overdevelopment, taxes, traffic congestion, and the future of our town.”
The Democratic slate has committed to attending the League of Women Voters for Northwest Westchester NY candidate forum on Wednesday, Oct. 8 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Nutrition Center at the Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center; the Temple Beth Shalom candidate forum on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 9 a..m. and the joint Yorktown Democratic Committee/Yorktown Republican Town Committee debate on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Yorktown Stage.
"Yorktown deserves robust conversation about our future, where we're headed as a community and how we get there together," said Jann Mirchandani, Democratic candidate for Yorktown Supervisor. "These forums and debates give us the chance to have those meaningful discussions voters are looking for."
"I've spent decades working on behalf of Yorktown residents, and I welcome every opportunity to highlight that work and discuss how we can build on it," added Ilan D. Gilbert, Democratic candidate for Yorktown Councilman. "Transparency and accountability should be the foundation of local government."
"Democracy thrives on open debate and honest dialogue," said Michael E. Hickins, Democratic candidate for Yorktown Councilman. "When candidates engage directly with voters and each other, everyone benefits from a more informed electorate."
