Yorktown Central School District is preparing for a change in leadership of its special education and student support services.

Kim Manikas will become the new director of Pupil Personnel Services, pending Board of Education approval at its Oct. 5 meeting, the district announced Thursday.

Manikas first joined the district in August 2024 as supervisor of special education for the secondary levels. She previously spent seven years working as a school psychologist in upstate New York and Westchester.

A native of the Albany area, Manikas holds a bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University and completed her graduate studies at the College of Saint Rose.

Manikas said in the district announcement that she’s excited to take on the new role and “begin this new chapter” and looks forward to “collaborating with our students, families, and staff to maintain and create meaningful supports and opportunities for every student to succeed.”

She said Yorktown’s environment of “putting students at the center of what we do” is paramount.

Manikas currently works with Caroline Almeida, the district’s director of Pupil Personnel Services, whom she will replace when Almeida retires Sept. 30 after several years of service.
