Yorktown Commemorates 9/11

YORKTOWN, N.Y.—The Yorktown community will gather for the town's September 11th Remembrance ceremony at 4:00 p.m. at the  Shrub Oak Memorial Pavilion at 1130 East Main Street in Shrub Oak.

The Shrub Oak Memorial Pavilion and Park was dedicated by the Town of Yorktown Town Board on Sept. 8, 2002, in memory of town residents who lost their lives in the tragic events at the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001.  

The pavilion's centerpieces is pentagon-shaped stone engraved with their names.

Supervisor Ed Lachterman will start the ceremony with remarks and introductions, followed by the presentation of the colors and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Boy Scout Troop 174.

Sean Reilly will sing the National Anthem, followed by an invocation by Chabad of Yorktown Rabbi Yehuda Herber and the Laying of the Wreath.

After retired NYPD officer, Yorktown resident and member of the Pipes & Drums of the Police Emerald Society Brian Ahern will lead the gathering in Amazing Grace and God Bless America, Rev. Msgr. Joseph R. Giandurco of Yorktown’s two Catholic parishes (St. Patrick’s and Seton) will offer a benediction.

Taps will be performed by Yorktown HS student Ichiro Iizuka
