YORKTOWN, N.Y.—Yorktown has been named one of the safest communities in New York State.
SafeWise, a Utah-based advisory group made up of experts in personal safety, theft trends, IT security, criminal justice and health, ranked Yorktown the eighth-safest city in New York in its 2025 Safest Cities report. The town followed other local communities, including Bedford (No. 1), Carmel (No. 2), Rye (No. 3) and Scarsdale (No. 7).
Over the past three years, SafeWise has surveyed more than 15,000 Americans—at least 300 from each state—to gather insights on perceptions and attitudes about safety and crime.
According to the report, Yorktown saw a year-over-year decrease in property crime and violent crime, helping secure its spot in the top 10.
Chief of Police Robert Noble, in a June 5 press release from the town, credited the department for keeping the community safe.
“We are proud of this recognition, which is a testament to the character, hard work and extensive training our officers undergo,” he said, adding that, “as an accredited force, the Yorktown Police Department adheres to the highest standards in crime fighting, and our commitment to excellence is unwavering. Our partnership with the Yorktown community is second to none.”
The report also showed that New York residents are less concerned about overall safety and security compared to the previous year. It said 47 percent of New Yorkers reported worrying about crime and safety on a daily basis, down from the 59 percent reported the previous year.
Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman, in the same release, praised Noble and the police officers.
“On behalf of the entire community, I want to thank Chief Noble and every officer for their tireless dedication to protecting our residents and ensuring Yorktown remains a safe and welcoming place to live,” he said.
