YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. — A Yonkers man has been arrested in connection with an April 2024 theft at Kay Jewelers in the Jefferson Valley Mall, Yorktown police said Monday.

Tyson Hanner, 39, was arrested on Thursday, April 24.

Police said that on April 22, 2024, Hanner asked to try on a gold chain valued at $3,799. Once the employee handed him the chain, he allegedly ran out of the store without paying. Officers responded to a report of a larceny, but Hanner had already fled the scene.

According to the Yorktown Police Department website, some trash left at the scene eventually led to the arrest.

“It is alleged that the suspect requested to try on a gold chain and ran out of the store once the employee handed him the necklace, leaving behind a fruit cup," Yorktown Police reported. " The suspect was later identified as the defendant after the fruit cup was recovered with the defendant's DNA.”

Yorktown Justice Court issued a warrant for his arrest on Nov. 29, 2024, signed by Judge Aviah Cohen-Pierson. On April 24, the Westchester County Department of Corrections, which already had Hanner in custody on an unrelated charge, transported him to Yorktown Justice Court to face the outstanding warrant.

Hanner was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony. He was processed by Yorktown police, arraigned by Cohen-Pierson, and released on his own recognizance before being returned to county custody.

He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m.
