A 38-year-old Yonkers man was arrested June 4 after police say he fled officers on the Taconic State Parkway following a series of traffic infractions, according to the Yorktown Police Department.
Police said the incident began when Detective James Hannigan attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling southbound on the Taconic State Parkway for alleged speeding and additional traffic violations.
According to police, the driver did not stop when emergency lights were activated and instead fled the attempted stop. Officers Carl Nuccilli, Domenico Dinotte and Brand Bennett later located the vehicle farther south on the parkway in Yorktown, where they again attempted to pull it over for additional traffic infractions. Police said the driver again fled before the vehicle was eventually stopped.
The operator, identified as Leonel Federico Acevedo of Yonkers, was taken into custody at the scene by Nuccilli and transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters for processing.
Acevedo was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor; third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a class A misdemeanor; reckless driving, an unclassified misdemeanor; and multiple vehicle and traffic infractions.
Following arrest processing, Acevedo was issued an appearance ticket and multiple summonses and released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on June 23 at 6 p.m.
