William T. Mahoney, fondly known to his friends and family as Bill, passed away suddenly on February 17, 2026.

Born on March 28, 1946, in Yonkers, NY, to the late Thomas P. Mahoney and Grace H. Mahoney, Bill's warm presence and sense of humor were a blessing to all who knew him.

Bill's life was marked by his devotion to his family, his Catholic faith, and his career. He was the beloved husband of Barbara, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 57 years filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Patrick Mahoney (Stacy), Michael Mahoney (Carol), and Valerie Neckers (Jeff), who were the center of Bill's world. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his cherished grandchildren, Thomas Mahoney, Charles Mahoney, Sean Mahoney, Kelly Mahoney, Jacqueline Neckers, and John Neckers. He took great pride in each of their achievements and was a constant source of encouragement and support.

A proud alumnus of Cardinal Hayes High School, Bill graduated from Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 1968. His education laid the foundation for a successful and rewarding career spanning 37 years. Bill retired as the Director of State & Local Taxes from Avon Products, Inc., where he was highly respected for his intelligence, integrity, and problem-solving abilities during his 26-year tenure. Prior to joining Avon, Bill worked at Getty Oil Company and Shell Oil Company. Throughout his career, Bill was an active member of numerous state and local tax organizations including as former Chairman of the State & Local Tax Committee of the New York Chapter of the Tax Executives Institute, and a member of the New York State Tax Department's Taxpayer Advisory Council. He was an active Enrolled Agent licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.

Bill's faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with guidance and comfort during life's challenges. He was a member of the Church of The Holy Spirit in Cortlandt Manor, NY where he faithfully served as an usher for many years.

An avid enthusiast of cars, trucks and model trains, Bill was often found tinkering with projects or discussing his hobbies with friends and fellow collectors. As a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees, he rarely missed a game, whether it was from the comfort of his living room or from the stands.

He enjoyed music from various genres, which accompanied family events and milestones held in his home. His sense of humor, friendliness, and intelligence made him fun to be around, and he had a remarkable ability to make every person he met feel welcome and at home. He encouraged his family to take the time to meet and connect with other people and appreciated chatting with people anywhere he went.

Bill's legacy is one of laughter, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will live on in the stories they share and the lives he touched. Bill will be deeply missed, but the imprints of his love and laughter will remain forever.
