Dear Editor,
With the midterms approaching, I started to think of the information we received from the Town Board before the last election.
One flier, in particular, caught my attention regarding what the board had done. It stated, “They have stopped residential development that were too big – overburdening Yorktown’s schools and increasing traffic congestion.”
Clearly this is not so. Just look at the monstrous Underhill project adjacent to the Town Hall that was built under this administration. We need a board that will make the concerns of residents a priority before approving any project.
Along with taxes, overdevelopment and traffic are the major issues in this year’s election. Traffic is a major problem right now. If formerly proposed projects come back and are passed, the traffic will be horrendous, especially on a one lane road as is the case on sections of Route 6.
Presently, there are two board members who have gone on record against building oversized developments that the town’s infrastructure cannot support. The other three members have not gone on record. Why not? They certainly had the opportunity to do so. If a project is not voted on, the developer can re-apply at any time. These midterms are critical to the future of our town. Think hard before casting your vote.
Let’s keep Yorktown the gem of Westchester without overdeveloping our beautiful town.
