Miss Stacy's Song and Dance
To be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursdays, July 23 & 30, and Aug. 6 & 13. Back by popular demand! Come and enjoy songs, rhymes and books with Miss Stacy. For ages 0 - 5 and their caregivers. No registration required.
The Battle of Monmouth
From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. The Historical Miniature Gaming Society is back at Somers Library in time for the 250th! This time, John will be presenting the Battle of Monmouth. The Battle of Monmouth (June 28, 1778) was a pivotal American Revolutionary War engagement in New Jersey, marking the end of the British Philadelphia occupation and the first major battle after the Continental Army's rigorous training at Valley Forge. Washington sought to strike the retreating British, demonstrating improved discipline. John presents history in a fun game form where you make the first tactical moves and then John shows you what really happened. Will you make better decisions than Washington? Let's see. Wild Facts About Wild Mushrooms
From 12 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, explore the diverse and captivating world of wild mushrooms! This all-ages presentation, led by experienced mycophile Lisa Solomon, will delve into the surprising variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and even smells found in fungi, challenging common myths along the way. Participants will learn to identify major genera and their defining characteristics, discover essential gear for forest foraging, and review safety rules for collecting and cooking edible varieties. Immediately following the presentation, join in for a foraging expedition in Reis Park. (weather permitting). Register online or by calling the library.
Manga with a Twist of Anime
From 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29. The popular Manga with a Twist of Anime club continues in summer edition mode. Instead of meeting once a week, the group will meet every two weeks. Sign up for one meeting or all which is great if you are away at times in the summer. You will read a manga and then watch the anime to compare and contrast. This is a fun way to find great new series to watch and read. Plus manga is a quick read which is perfect for summer! The first book of a series will be available for pick up at the library but they encourage you to keep reading more in the series. This program is for those entering 5th to 12th grade in the fall. YORKTOWN REPAIR CAFE
Grace Lutheran Church at 3830 Gomer St. will host the next Yorktown Repair Cafe from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday July 25. Want to get some of your broken items back in service and keep them out of the waste stream? The folks at the Repair Cafe may be able to help. Lamps, small appliances, bikes, clocks, fabrics, toys, wooden items, crockery, jewelry, computers and electronics — anything broken is welcome at the Repair Cafe. Volunteer specialists will assess whether an item can be repaired and, if possible, fix it for free. Use the Yorktown Repair Cafe page on Signup Genius to register, or just walk in.
WESTCHESTER BLUEGRASS CLUB
Rebecca Frazier
Rebecca Frazier will take the stage at WBC on Sunday, July 26! She is a trailblazing force in bluegrass, renowned as a "triple threat" for her world-class flatpicking, soulful vocals, and award-winning songwriting. This is a family-friendly event, and kids are free! Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets, pack a picnic, and feel free to bring wine or beer to enjoy on the lawn. In case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors to the Lake Purdys Clubhouse. Gates open at 5 p.m., showtime from 6 to 8 p.m. $30 suggested donation.
HAMMOND MUSEUM & JAPANESE STROLL GARDEN
Beer Tasting, Artists Panel, and Discussion
At 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. In conjunction with an invitation to whet your whistle and try a selection of beers from several Hudson Valley Breweries, Hammond invites you to participate in a lively discussion inspired by the current exhibition ENOUGH and some of the underlying ideas behind the show. Free with museum admission.
Music by Skin Against Metal
A 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. Skin Against Metal is a rock-jazz experimental trio founded in 2005, that blends hypnotic rhythms, textured electronics and haunting vocals to create industrial cinematic soundscapes. Maurice Minichino-piano & electronics, Nanette Garcia-vocals & percussion, Jame O'Keeffe-bass & electronics.
Ramayana Dance Drama
From 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 26. Directed and Choreographed by Pandit S.N. Charka and presented by the Ananda Ashram East-West School of Dance. The Ramayana is one of ancient India’s most revered texts and tells about the adventures and trials of Lord Rama. His ultimate triumph over evil is depicted through dance and music in this unforgettable performance.
Art Making Redefined
From 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1. In conjunction with the current exhibition ENOUGH, join in for a round table discussion that asks “Can Art Change?” Participating artists include Michael Asbill, Patricia Dahlman, Simon Draper, Robyn Ellenbogen, Janice La Motta, and Sam Spillman. Free with museum admission.
